I took a spill!

Heya - I'm bruised and sore but I'm ALIVE!

It was funny, and I know exactly what went wrong- I was lookin' at the ground, and leaned too far over... thank gawsh I didn't hit anybody or anything, and nobody hit me... Slow enough that I din't even rip my pants, and my bike is blemished but ok... Good thing too, I was able to access that adrenaline and pick my Zephyr 550 right up off the street and be on my merry (and much more careful way) ...

Anyways, just thought I'd share...

Sorry to hear about your spill. My first spill was because I wore sneakers and my lace got tangled around the foot peg. At an intersection, I tried to free myself, leaned too far, and tipped the bike over. Fortunately, it was not moving, but regretably, it pinned my leg between the curb and the bike. It was very unfortunate, and amazingly enough - a bunch of people sat in the traffic and watched me struggle with being trapped and then trying to pick up the bike by myself, and noone offered help for about 5 minutes. Really amazing, but I was truly grateful for the guy who did help.

My bike is a Yamaha Seca II (600 cc). A bit heavier perhaps than yours, or perhaps I am just a weakling in that department.

That being said -- Happy and SAFE trails to all!

Spills happen girl, but ususally only when there are people around to watch you LOL. I have yet to drop it when I am alone. I have had my Harley for 15 years and used to go over whne I was backing into a parking space and have the handle bars cocked to the left and got my balance off (400 lb bike). One day a guy came up to me and said don't feel bad everyone does it and those who say they don't are either lying or haven't been riding that long. That made me feel better.

oh man the spills are terrible. i hit a big dip while backing my bike up and slowly fell (he's a 580lb 900cc) and i tried picking him up (all about the handlebar tilt) but with the dip factor he wasn't getting up- i frantically ran down the road waving my arms and got a guy to help me out... turns out it was his birthday and he was just chillin in his car? i dunno- but i was Extremely grateful he was willign acuse nobody else ghad stopped (granted this was all a slow moving 3 min period)

i broke off my turn signal and can't afford a new one so it's taped in place :[

but at least it feels good to have a place i can come clean about it- no guys will admit to ever bailing without a collision involved so i am terrible embarrassed by the event :[

My first spill was going down the driveway, as I refer to it now as the "black hole" where the street meets the curb there is a dip and my legs did not reach the ground so I did a slow motion lean to the left and had to lay the bike down. Mine is a 883 sportster and YES the adrenaline rush sure helps to pick her up, not to mention the embarissment!

Glad you're ok and so is the bike (except for cosmetics). It's so much fun when you do it in the middle of someplace really busy - how about the corner of 18th St and Castro, when you're annoyed at the wait and drive on the right -hand side of the loooong line of traffic and someone opens their door right in front of you as you zag to the right... *ouch* no way he could see me and I couldnt see him in his car from that angle.. The poor guy was SO sorry and nice (even though it was my fault) and I had 6 hairy bears run over to help me pick up my bike which was nice too. I am lucky enough to have a light bike. So empowered by embarassment I picked up my SV 650 by myself even though it had fallen on an incline w/o a problem.. and red-faced rode off into the sunset... my baby was totally fine too, thank goodness but man was I embarassed..everyone was staring at me.. and I'm shy!

I just had my second spill . . . and broke the shifter lever. Waaaahhh. A super nice homeless man helped me pick it up, and I rode it all the way to my repair class (handy, eh?) shifting super carefully with no knob on the lever. But now I have to order the part, left my bike at class. At least now I'll know how to replace the part myself if it happens again (and yes, I ordered a spare! It was only a $45 part, so figured better safe than sorry). Also have to replace the turn signals. I locked up the wheel braking, cuz I let traffic freak me out. Sigh . . .
